Match day guide: Springboks vs Australia at DHL Stadium

19 August 2025

This week sees the first test match between the sides in Cape Town since 2014. This is a guide on how spectators can get to the stadium on game day.

The City of Cape Town is rolling out an expanded free Park & Ride service this Saturday 23 August 2025, as the Mother City hosts four-time Rugby World Cup champions, the Springboks, for their Castle Lager Rugby Championship game against Australia at the DHL Stadium.

The stadium gates are set to open at midday.

The free MyCiTi shuttle will start operating at 11:30 from the following locations: Bellville Velodrome, Century City, the CTICC , Thibault Square and the Civic Centre, with return services operating until 21:30.

‘We know that game days mean heavy traffic and congestion on our roads, especially with around 55 000 spectators expected at DHL Stadium. That’s why the City has worked with the event organisers to expand transport options that reduce congestion and get fans to the stadium safely. We encourage everyone to use the Park-and-Ride system and dedicated shuttle services, which offer a convenient, reliable and traffic-beating way to enjoy the game without the stress of driving. We are also ensuring that our Safety and Security personnel are out and about to ensure people are able to get to the stadium, enjoy the game and return home safely,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Park & Ride Facilities:
The City will avail its parking lot at the Civic Centre to match ticket holders from 11:30 on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry is via Hertzog Boulevard (incoming) and Civic Road.

Spectators who park at the Civic Centre can then take the MyCiTi bus from the Civic Centre station.
Fans can also take a bus from the Century City Steelbridge e-Parking, off Century Boulevard, from 11:30.

Limited free parking bays are available for ticket holders on a first-come, first-served basis. The area will be monitored by security; however, parking is at the owner’s risk. Paid parking is also available at the mall.

In Bellville, the MyCiTi shuttle will operate from the Bellville Velodrome where parking will be available for spectators. The Park & Ride will start from 11:30  pre-game and operate until 21:30 after the game.

At the CTICC, the shuttle will operate from the City Sightseeing bus stop near Entrance 3 on Walter Sisulu Avenue.
For those using the bus from the CTICC or the Civic Centre, on-street parking is free in the CBD from 13:00.

Paid parking is also available at the Parkalot on Jack Craig Street and at the Harbour Arch on Harbour Arch Boulevard.

A designated e-hailing drop-off and pick-up area will be located at P13 on Green Point Main Road, between York Road and Wigtown Road.

Metrorail will be running additional trains to Cape Town Station from all its operating lines. Trains will operate between 11:00 and 22:00 at a cost of R20 for a return ticket.

Spectators can then hop on a free MyCiTi at the Civic Centre and Thibault Square or take the FanWalk to the Green Point Precinct.
